At The Boston Shaker, a locally-owned cocktail specialty store in Davis Square, our primary aim is to make sure that every customer that walks in our door has an excellent experience. Our staff are the folks that make that happen, so it is super important that we get the right people. Based on our experience, we have found that our happiest and most successful employees have the following qualities:
** A drive to help others: First and foremost we are here to make sure our customers get the service that they need. Whether it be helping them find the perfect Father’s Day gift or selecting a bottle of bitters that will enhance their home cocktails, we are here to answer questions, provide information and make crafting cocktails accessible and fun for everyone.
** A love for learning, sharing, and teaching: Our customers come to us for our knowledge and expertise. This is a relationship based on trust, so as a Shaker employee, it will be your job to learn about the gear, ingredients, and books that we carry. This way you can guide our customers through their decisions, ensuring that they are walking out the door feeling confident and happy about their purchases.
** An eye for detail: Always making sure that the shelves are stocked, product is received accurately, and price tags are removed for gift purchases — these may not be the most glamorous of tasks, but they are crucial to making sure our store runs smoothly and efficiently. We are looking for folks that understand that it’s the little things that contribute to a great customer experience.
** A desire to make an impact: We encourage proactive thinking, suggestions for improvement, and creative energy. We are a growing mom-and-pop shop, so we want everyone on our team to engage their brains and think about how we can be doing things better.

** A consistent schedule -there’s always going to be things that come up, but for the most part we give people a regular schedule so they can make plans to work a second gig or do other fun stuff.
Ideally, we looking for people to work 3-4 shifts per week — for an average of 20-30 hours per week. Our shifts are typically 10:30a-6:00p or 1pm-7:30pm, and we need folks available to work a combination of weekend and weekday shifts. This is a non-exempt hourly position with pay based on experience, but always starting above minimum wage.
